Richard Ackerman

General Counsel

Rich is a Partner and General Counsel of Quantamize. He was a partner in Troutman Sanders LLP, a leading international law firm, and previously, the head of the corporate practice group of a highly regarded, mid-sized law firm based in New York City, where he was a member of its executive committee for many years.

Rich’s practice specialties were 1940 Act investment company law and corporate mergers and acquisitions. He has advised on the organization, operation and structuring of numerous domestic and foreign private funds, including investment hedge and private equity funds. In his corporate practice, he was counsel in a wide range of minority and co-investments, acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures. Rich has worked closely with Wallace for over twenty years.

Rich has a B.A from Wittenberg University and a J.D. from New York Law School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. He is an art museum docent, and mentors young adults with psychological disorders.

Paul Baessler

Product & Subscriber Services

Paul is a Partner of Quantamize. He manages product & subscriber services at Quantamize. Paul has close to 25 years of experience in the investment banking and brokerage industry, holding a number of key senior positions at various firms. Over the course of his career, Paul has led the launch of new products at broker/dealers, as well as establishing a broker/dealer.

Paul most recently spearheaded the launch and development of the International Equity Sales team at Banco Votorantim, Brazil’s third largest privately-owned bank. Prior to his arrival, Votorantim never had an equities product in the United States. He oversaw the expansion of the team as the client base expanded in the U.S.

Previous to Votorantim, Paul relaunched Unibanco’s US equities brokerage and investment banking products in 2004 where he led the placement of over US$12b in new equity offerings, greatly expanding that product in the US. Prior to Unibanco, Paul helped establish Banco Itau’s US broker/dealer where he created their equity/trading products and helped design all the processes for the new broker/dealer. Previous to Itau, he spent 9 years with Garantia, the leading Brazilian investment bank in the 1990’s, which was acquired by Credit Suisse during his time there.

Paul speaks fluent Portuguese and functional Spanish. He is an avid endurance cyclist and fitness enthusiast who enjoys building his model railroad.

Edward Boll

Options Strategist

Ed is a Partner and Options Strategist at Quantamize. He is the CEO of EAB Investment Group and a Member of the Investment Committee. Prior to forming EAB Investment Group, Ed was co-founder of DC Trading Partners, LLC in 2005. DC focused on volatility correlation, dispersion, event trading and ETF arbitrage. DC developed proprietary trading methods, analytics and market making algorithms.

Ed spent 3 years with the Goldman Sachs SLK-Hull Derivatives Group, where he was the portfolio risk manager for the internet, hardware, media, mining, telecom and energy sectors. He also managed and developed SLK-Hull’s proprietary risk portfolio. Previously, Ed spent 10 years with TFM Investment Group. In 1995, he created and managed TFM’s American Stock Exchange options specialist unit and ETF arbitrage group, as well as serving on TFM’s Senior Risk Strategy Committee.

Ed served on the Technology, Allocation, Specialist, Floor Official and Floor Violations Committees of the American Stock Exchange. He has more than twenty years of experience trading derivatives and has been a member of the American Stock Exchange, Philadelphia Stock Exchange, CBOE, Boston Options Exchange and the ISE. Ed received a B.S. in Finance and Economics from Pennsylvania State University. He holds Series 7, 63 and 66.

Arnim S. Holzer

Global Macro & Tail Risk Strategist

Arnim is the Global Macro and Tail Risk Strategist at Quantamize and Client Portfolio Manager of the EAB Investment Group. Arnim has served as Chief Investment Officer, Strategist, Portfolio Manager, and Client Service and Marketing executive at several firms over the past 30 years. Prior to joining EAB, Arnim founded a tail risk consulting firm, ASH Strategy, LLC, where he developed a novel multi-asset hedging approach for institutional, high net worth, and family office investors. For 6 years he managed or served as senior strategist on multi-asset funds or strategies at Deutsche Asset Management and Scudder. While at Deutsche he was the portfolio manager on approximately $3 billion of assets in domestic and offshore multi-asset funds. He also founded and managed a multi-asset offshore hedge fund at Israel Discount Bank of New York. He has over 30 years of global macro and multi-asset experience.

Arnim’s investment philosophy is a unique blend of fundamental, technical and, quantitative disciplines honed over the years of working with many of the top firms and investors in each of these disciplines.

His particular macro skill is understanding the relationships of correlation and volatility in the optimization of portfolio construction and return generation. Arnim received his undergraduate Economics degree from Princeton University and his MBA-Finance from Fordham University. He holds a Series 7 and 65 Registered Representative securities registrations.

Prema Mathai-Davis, Ed.D.

Operations and Administration

Prema is a Partner of Quantamize. She is responsible for overseeing operations and administrative functions at Quantamize. She is a senior executive with extensive leadership, board, and advisory experience.

Prema has been involved in the mutual fund industry for 20 years. She is an independent director of Invesco Funds, where she chairs the Valuation, Distribution and Proxy Committee and is Vice Chair of the Governance Committee. She is a former board member of the YWCA Retirement Fund, and the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) during the time when the EZ pass and MetroCard were developed and implemented.

Prema was formerly CEO of the YWCA USA (2 million members in over 4000 communities), where she led its organizational transformation, return to financial stability, and instituted ground breaking innovative programs for women and girls. Previously, she was the Commissioner of the New York City Department for Aging, the largest area agency in the country, serving over 1.3 million New Yorkers. She was the Founder and CEO of the Community Agency for Senior Citizens, known for its pioneering programs for seniors, including the first private-public partnership to create affordable senior housing. Prema also developed the Geriatric-Gerontology Center for the Mount Sinai School of Medicine-Hunter College in NYC, one of the first four such centers in the United States.

Prema has advised leaders of Fortune 500 companies and worked closely with the US Congress and the Executive branch to develop legislation and policies affecting the lives of families, women, and girls. She is the recipient of numerous leadership, women in business and humanitarian awards.

Prema has a Doctorate in Education from Harvard University, and served on the Editorial Board of the Harvard Educational Review. She has an MS and BS from Delhi University and was the recipient of the Chancellor’s Gold Medal for Outstanding Scholar.

Stephen Mathai-Davis, CFA, CQF

Chief Investment Officer & Managing Member

Stephen is the co-founder, Chief Investment Officer and Managing Member of Quantamize. He is a CFA® charter holder and a member of the CFA Institute, CQF Institute, the New York Society of Security Analysts, and the Society of Quantitative Analysts.

Stephen’s investment experience and approach involves developing specialized multi-factor quantitative analytics and multi-asset options-volatility strategies. Stephen has significant global investing experience and is widely traveled in the global markets of Latin America, India, South-East Asia, South Asia, Russia Western Europe and Japan.

Stephen was previously a top performing analyst at PineBridge Investments (formerly AIG investments) with research responsibilities covering global consumer/media, energy, infrastructure, utilities, and telecommunications.

Prior to joining PineBridge Investments, Stephen served as a trader for the hedge fund, Sunridge Capital Advisors, a financials-focused investment management firm. He began his career at Sandler O’Neill & Partners as an insurance and equity trader.

Stephen is multilingual and a published writer. He has published 3 white papers discussing the application of economic profit as a valuation metric in inefficient markets, the concept of Active Share and its application to portfolio construction, and the benefits of a concentrated approach to investing in public equities and the diminishing impact of diversification on idiosyncratic risk.

Stephen earned a B.A in International Studies with a concentration in Latin America, Middle East, and South Asia from Johns Hopkins University. He is an accomplished martial artist with black belts in 6 different forms and was nominated to the Action Magazine Hall of Fame.

Wallace Mathai-Davis, Ph.D.

Chairman & Managing Member

Wallace is the co-founder, Chairman & Managing Member of Quantamize. He has over 35 years of experience as a senior executive in international asset management and merchant banking. Wallace has been responsible for significant investment businesses and substantial investments in the diverse markets of Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe and the European Union, in addition to North America.

Over the course of his professional career, Wallace has been involved in a number of successful FinTech initiatives delivering financial services through the use of advanced technologies. For nearly eight years, he was a member of the Supervisory Board of 360 Treasury Systems and an advisor to its CEO. 360T is one of the most successful FinTech companies in Germany. It was sold in October 2015 to the Deutsche Boerse (German Stock Exchange) for nearly $800 million. Wallace remains Chairman of the North American subsidiary, 360 Trading Networks Inc.

Wallace was the COO, shareholder and a partner for 16 years at OFFITBANK, a leading independent asset manager and private bank with 7 regional offices including Hong Kong. He was also the Chairman and CEO of the Offit Investment Fund, a mutual fund complex. Wallace was Co-Head of Emerging Markets, and OFFITBANK was an early investor in the newly emerging securities markets of Latin America, Greater China, and Eastern Europe. After the sale of OFFITBANK to Wachovia, then the sixth largest bank in the United States, he became a member of Wachovia Asset Management, Brokerage and Private Banking Management Committee.

Wallace co-founded and was co-CEO and Board member of ChinaVest, Ltd., one of the first independent merchant banks chartered in the People’s Republic of China. ChinaVest provided cross-border mergers and acquisitions to Global 1000 companies such as IBM, John Deere, Scottish & Newcastle and AIG, in addition to Chinese companies. Prior to this, Wallace joined the Board of Directors of Mercantile Bankshares and assumed the responsibilities of Chairman of Investment and Wealth Management of the holding company. Wallace was also a Director of Global Decisions Group, which owned MCM Bond and Currency Market Services and Cambridge Energy Associates.

Wallace has served on a number of corporate boards in China, the U.S. and Europe, as well as nonprofit boards. He has been a Director of a number of non-traditional investment companies including, Hedge Fund Investment Company, the first independent hedge fund seeder; Acorn Derivatives; Plus Fund; Regina Pacific, Ltd. (a Chinese conglomerate), to mention a few. He is a Senior Advisor of the Max Planck Foundation in Munich, and a member of the IFO Institute in Germany for more than 25 years.

Wallace was a member of the Graduate Research Faculty of Stony Brook University where he won multiple awards as a professor. He is published in academic journals and regularly speaks on investment markets. Wallace is an economic sociologist and holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from Princeton University. He graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Philosophy from The University of Notre Dame, where he also held a national Defense Fellowship for Soviet Studies.

James Ryan

Options Strategist

Jim is a Partner and Options Strategist at Quantamize. He is a Managing Partner of the EAB Investment Group and a Member of the Investment Committee. Prior to joining EAB Investment Group, Jim co-founded RB Derivatives LP in 2006. RB Derivatives was involved in mean reversion equity trading and earnings event arbitrage. At RB, Jim developed proprietary algorithms based on quantitative research and automated the execution through proprietary software. Previously, Jim co-founded Heard Trading in 1990, a Philadelphia based proprietary trading firm specializing in volatility arbitrage in index and equity options. He was responsible for firm wide risk and business development. Through Jim's leadership, the firm grew to 60 employees and expanded to San Francisco, Chicago and New York.

Jim also spearheaded the firm’s entry into the ETF arbitrage business on the AMEX. In addition to his duties at Heard, he worked with programmers to design and build an electronic trading system for pairs, baskets and single stock execution. The system was used both internally and externally through a distribution agreement with Fimat.

Jim has 25 years of trading experience in equities, futures and derivatives. He received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Richmond and holds Series 7 and 65 licenses.

Bill Visconto

Options Strategist

Bill is a Partner and Options Strategist at Quantamize. He is the CFO/COO of the EAB Investment Group and a Member of the Investment Committee. Prior to joining EAB Investment Group, Bill was head volatility trader at McGowan Investors LLC. His responsibilities were to implement the firm’s strategy in the volatility arbitrage space and deploy the firm’s capital to maximize returns. Before joining McGowan, Bill was co-founder of Volare Capital, a hedge fund that pursued statistical/ volatility arbitrage strategies in index and single stock options.

Bill was the head of portfolio management and trading floor operations for PFTC Advisors and PFTC Trading. At PFTC, he was responsible for managing a $100 million portfolio using a team of 4 portfolio managers and 17 floor traders. PFTC Trading was one of the largest liquidity providers in the United States. Bill received his B.S. in Marketing from the University of Scranton. He holds Series 7, 63, 65 licenses and is currently a CFA Level 3 Candidate.
