US stocks end shortened week with losses on trade fears as President Trump threatens tariffs on USD$467bn in goods

US Markets End of Day Snapshot

  • Amazon’s (AMZN) delivery plans are exciting auto makers as it put in its first order of 20,000 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans, making it the largest buyer of this vehicle.  A new factory is set to open in South Carolina to produce the vans.  Amazon closed down 0.28% at $1952.40.  Amazon is rated ‘Attractive’ in our US Large- Cap Global Top Picks and ‘Top Buy’ in our US Information Technology Global Top Picks
  • Apple (AAPL) said the list of proposed tariffs includes many Apple products and products the company uses in its operations.  That includes a wide variety of products such as Apple Watch, Air Pods and chargers as well as a host of tools used in its manufacturing processes.  Apple closed down 0.58% at $220.80.  Apple is rated ‘Top Buy’ in our US Large- Cap Global Top Picks and ‘Attractive’ in our US Consumer Discretionary Global Top Picks.
  • Nike (NKE) reported a surge in online sales in the wake of its announcement of an ad campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick.  Sales rose over those 4 days while during the same period last year sales fell.  Nike closed down 0.12% at $80.30.  Nike is rated ‘Unattractive’ in our US Large- Cap Global Top Picks and ‘Attractive’ in our US Consumer Discretionary Global Top Picks.
