Asian stocks closed higher with Bank of Japan leaving rates unchanged and the potential for more stimulus in China propelling markets

Japanese Market

  • Japanese stocks advanced overnight, capping the biggest 4-day (positive) move since November 2016 
  • The Bank of Japan (BOJ) kept its policy rate unchanged at –0.10%, putting a bid into Japanese stocks 
  • The Nikkei 225 finished up 1.08% and the Topix closed up 1.46%
  • Investor sentiment for Japanese stocks finished positive with the advance/decline ratio for the Nikkei 225 closing at 6.76x

  • Chinese stocks jumped up for the second straight day with property and consumer stocks driving the positive move on hopes for an intensification of domestic fiscal stimulus measures
  • The Hang Seng closed up 1.19%, Hang Seng China Enterprise advanced 1.75%, and the CSI 300 rose 1.32%
