Japanese Market

  • The rally in Japanese stocks formally stalled yesterday with export-sensitive stocks weighing on both the Topix and Nikkei 
  • The Nikkei 225 finished down 0.99% and the Topix closed down 1.18%
  • Investor sentiment for Japanese stocks finished negative with the advance/decline ratio for the Nikkei 225 closing at 0.25x

  • Chinese stocks finished in the red with slowing industrial profit, combined with the US Fed’s decision to raise interest rates, dampened investor sentiment  Reuters is reporting that the PBOC skipped its Open Market Committee meeting after yesterday’s US Fed decision 
  • The Hong Kong Monetary Authority raised its base interest rate 25 bps to 2.5%, putting a bid into Hong Kong commercial bank stocks 
  • The Hang Seng closed down 0.36%, Hang Seng China Enterprise declined 0.42%, and the CSI 300 retreated 0.4%
  • Investor sentiment for Hong Kong stocks finished negative with the advance/decline ratio for the Hang Seng closing at 0.52x
