Japanese Market

  • Japanese stocks closed higher for the third straight session as strong earnings from Walmart (WMT) eased concerns over a consumption slowdown in the US economy, the second-largest market for Japanese exports. 
  • The Nikkei 225 finished up 0.6% and the Topix closed up 0.43%
  • According to Mizuho Securities, the recent gains in copper prices, which serve as a leading indicator for the Japanese economy, may reflect expectations for global growth to avoid a further slowdown due to a pause in US interest rate hikes.
