  • Curious to see that 6 of the 10 top Russell 1000 stocks trending by sentiment are tech stocks! Investors may be placing higher importance on tech stocks as we head into the thick of earnings season. This supports our theory that there is an ongoing rotation into tech stocks, which we discussed in our post last week, "ETFs AM Wrap-Up: Rotation into Tech, Utilities, and Health Care".

  • It is no surprise to see that Apple (AAPL) is a top Russell 1000 stock trending by sentiment. Within the last 30 days, Apple has been at the forefront of news coverage as the company has announced a slew of new services and resolved its legal dispute with Qualcomm (QCOM), which is also a top Russell 1000 stock trending by sentiment.

    • Specifically, Apple has some of the best overall story and event sentiment across global news sites.  Are we missing something?  Maybe it does make sense to buy that iPad Mini after all?!

  • Bank of America (BAC) has some of the best story sentiment and event sentiment of all stocks in the Russell 1000.  It is surprising that Bank of America (BAC) is in the top 10 while the other Money Center banks are missing, which suggests the reception to Bank of America's recent earnings was positive.
    • A week ago, Bank of America (BAC) reported earnings which surprised to the upside by north of 8%

  • Visa Inc. (V) is the operator of payments technology worldwide that serves customers such as consumers, merchants, financial institutions, businesses, strategic partners, and government entities. Visa reported an all-time high net income margin of 50.0% in FY2018, signaling a focus on profitability by company management! It is no shock it is on this list!

  • The Boeing Company (BA) has some of the best entity and event sentiment scores being discussed, however, their story sentiment score is low, indicating the stories being discussed are mixed.
    • One way to interpret these scores is that the overall sentiment for Boeing (BA) may be turning on the margin.  What do we mean?  It might suggest that embedded in the articles on Boeing (BA) are nuggets of positive data points that investors may be missing.

  • Boeing and its subsidiaries develop, manufacture, service, and sell commercial aircrafts, military aircrafts, satellites, missile defense systems, human space flight technologies, and services to customers across the globe. Boeing has generated an adjusted EPS beat in every quarter but one since FY1Q2011, a strong sign for prospective investors!
