US Market Snapshot

US Markets are higher today, with the S&P 500 (+0.76%), Russell 2000 (+0.64%), and the Nasdaq Composite (+0.58%).

The S&P 500 is being led higher today by Industrials (+1.49%), Real Estate (+0.95%), and Technology (+0.86%), while Telecom (-0.27%), Utilities (+0.33%), and Health Care (+0.38%) are the biggest lagging sectors.

Blackstone Group LP (BX) has agreed to acquire LaSalle Hotel Properties (LHO) for $4.8 billion in an all-cash transaction.

Campbell Soup (CPB) has been downgraded to underperform, from a neutral rating, at Bank of America. Bank of America sees 2019 as a transition year for Campbell’s and expects lower profitability due to management changes, strategic review, and rising costs.

Deere & Company (DE) shares are trading 1.87% higher today after President Donald Trump tweeted that China will be making “massive” purchases of US agricultural products.

NextEra Energy Inc (NEE) will reportedly be acquiring $5.1 billion in assets from Southern Co. The assets to be acquired includes Southern Co’s Gulf Power and Florida Gas subsidiaries.

Takeda Pharmaceuticals (TSE:4502) is reportedly considering issuing up to $20 billion in bonds in FY2018 in order to fund the company’s acquisition of Shire Plc (LSE:SHP)
