US Market Snapshot

US stocks are mixed today ahead of the FOMC meeting at 2:00, with the S&P 500 +0.04%, Russell 2000 -0.19%, and Nasdaq Composite +0.36%. The S&P 500 is being led higher today by Consumer Discretionary (+0.60%), Health Care (+0.39%), and Technology (+0.10%), while Real Estate (-1.18%), Materials (-0.72%), and Telecom (-0.52%) are the biggest lagging sectors. The VIX is down 12 basis points or -0.97%, to 12.22. US 10-year yield is little changed today, trading at 2.957%. The most actively traded options in US markets today are VIX August 22 OTM Calls, TWX July 20 OTM Puts, and AMD June 15 ATM Calls. The USD$ index is lower against most of the G10, gaining only against JPY¥.

How Did European Stocks Close?

European stocks were little changed today, as investors focus on the FOMC’s rate decision and tomorrow’s ECB meeting. The major indices were mixed, with the Euro Stoxx 600 +0.19%, DAX +0.38%, FTSE +0.00%, and CAC40 -0.01%. Periphery markets were mostly higher, with Italy’s MIB +0.44%, Spain’s IBEX 35 -0.15%, Portugal’s PSI 20 +0.36%, and Greece’s ASE +0.95%. The German 10-Year Bund yield fell 1.5 basis points to 0.479%. Italy’s 10-Year yield fell 6.8 basis points to 2.379%.
