  • Sentiment in European equity and bond markets is notably risk-off, as a reignition of Sino-American trade war concerns is dampening investor outlook. Investors are also digesting the interest rate divergence between the Fed and ECB
  • European stocks are mostly declining with the Euro Stoxx down 0.33%, the FTSE 100 falling 0.73%, the DAX sliding 0.23%, while the CAC 40 is 0.22% higher
  • Financials (-1.62%), energy (-1.04%), and telecommunications stocks (-0.95%) are the biggest underperformers in the Euro Stoxx 600

  • Eurozone’s trade surplus for April came in at €18.1 billion, which was significantly lower than expected (€20.0 billion forecasted)
  • According to a Reuters report, the Bundesbank has lowered its GDP growth outlook for the German economy in FY18 from 2.0%, down from a 2.5% projection in December 2017. The Bundesbank cited weak international demand for German goods and domestic labor shortages as the drivers of the downgrade

  • Italian sovereign treasuries are higher today, with yield on Italy’s 10-year down 8.5 basis points to 2.637%

  • French treasuries are advancing with the yield on France’s 10-year bond down 1.6 basis points to 0.743%
