US Markets End of Day Snapshot

US stocks ended today’s session lower, following the looming Sino-American trade war. The S&P 500 -0.10%, Russell 2000 -0.05%, and the Nasdaq Composite -0.19% all ended lower, but off session lows. The S&P 500 was led lower today by Consumer Staples (+0.51%), Telecom (+0.12%), and Consumer Discretionary ( -0.10%), while Energy (-2.80%), Materials (-1.16%), and Real Estate (-1.01%) were the biggest lagging sectors. The VIX fell 14 basis points, or -1.16%, to 11.98. The most actively traded options in US markets today were SPY June 15 OTM Puts, EFA June 15 ATM Puts, and F June 15 ATM Calls. The US 10-year yield fell today, down 1.9 basis points to 2.924%. The USD$ index was slightly weaker, with gains in CAD$ and AUD$ offset by losses in EUR€ and GBP £.

The 21st Century Fox (FOXA) board will reportedly consider Comcast Corp’s (CMCSA) $65 billion acquisition bid next Wednesday. 21st Century Fox previously agreed to sell its assets to Walt Disney Co (DIS).

Amazon.com (AMZN) is reportedly facing allegations from US lawmakers that the company’s popular Echo voice-controlled speakers are impeding on consumer’s privacy. This accusation follows an incident in May in which a customer’s conversation was recorded by their Echo device and send to an acquaintance with their consent.

AT&T Inc (T) has rebranded recently acquired Time Warner Cable will be rebranded by AT&T and will now be called WarnerMedia.

General Motors (GM) closed 0.78% higher in today’s trading after it was reported that the company was internally discussing a potential public offering for its self-driving car unit, Cruise Automation. General Motors is also considering the listing a separate stock that tracks Cruise Automation or spinning of the unit entirely.
