  • Sentiment across European equity markets is positive as Sino-American trade war concerns soften over reported discussions between American and Chinese negotiators, although the potential escalation of US-EU trade friction may negatively impact investor outlook. PMI data out of the Eurozone came in higher than expected, while major EU currencies are stronger against the USD$
  • European stocks are broadly higher this morning with the Euro Stoxx 600 up 0.86%, the FTSE 100 rising 1.16%, the DAX climbing 0.47%, and the CAC 40 advancing 0.93%
  • Energy (+1.82%), telecommunication s (+1.16%), and financials stocks (+1.15%) are the biggest outperformers in the Euro Stoxx 600
  • Information technology stocks (-0.03%) are the only Euro Stoxx 600 in red, with industrials (+0.49%) and real estate stocks (+0.52%) also being notable laggards
  • Market breadth for the Euro Stoxx 600 is notably positive with the 465 out of 600 stocks trading higher
  • Volume across European markets is 10.43% below its 10-day average
  • The EU has imposed as 25% tariff on $3.2 billion worth of US exports, including bourbon, motorcycles, and orange juice. The EU’s trade action is in retaliation to the US’s decision to not grant the EU exemption from US steel and aluminum tariffs
  • The Eurozone’s composite PMI for June came in stronger than anticipated (54.8 vs 53.9 forecasted). Eurozone June Service PMI was also above the consensus (55.0 vs 53.8 expected)

Highlights from the European Bond Market

  • UK treasuries are selling-off with the yield on UK 10-year up 3.8 basis points to 1.313%
  • Yield on the Italian 10-year bond is down 8.8 basis points to 2.629%
  • The German Bund is lower, as the yield on the German 10-year has slid 1.2 basis points to 0.344%
  • Greek sovereign treasures are significantly higher today, with the yield on the Greek 10-year down 17.4 basis points to 4.068%
