US stocks are advancing today, following reports that the Trump Administration was considering reopening discussions with Chinese trade negotiators. Major US indices are mostly higher with the S&P 500 +0.45%, the Dow Jones Industrial +0.67%, the Russell 2000 +0.17%, while the Nasdaq Composite is -0.14%. Energy (+3.03%), materials (+1.16%), and telecommunications stocks (+1.12%) are the biggest outperformers in the S&P 500, while information technology stocks (-0.44%) are the only S&P 500 stocks in negative territory. The VIX is down 131 basis points to 13.33. Yield on the US 10-year is up 1.1 basis point to 2.908%. The most actively traded options today are SPY June 29 ATM Puts and OTM Calls, BAC June 29 OTM Calls, and BP August 17 OTM Calls. The USD$ index is down 0.15% today, led by strength in the AUD$, EUR€, and GBP£.

How Did European Stocks Close

European stocks closed broadly higher with the Euro Stoxx 600 +1.09%, the FTSE 100 +1.67%, the DAX +0.54%, and the CAC 40 +1.34%. Periphery markets in the region were higher as well with the IBEX +0.93%, the PSI 20 +1.90%, the FTSE MIB +0.99%, while the ASE was 0.22% lower. The VSTOXX finished 11.71% lower to 14.20. Yield on the UK 10-year bond is up 4.2 basis points to 1.317%, while the yield on Italy’s 10-year is down 3.6 basis points. EUR€, GBP£, CHF, and SEK all higher against the greenback.
