European Stock Market

  • Sentiment across European equity markets is decidedly positive, with the Euro Stoxx 600 is on pace for its first negative trading day this week. Auto makers reversed from yesterday’s higher trading and are leading today’s declines
  • China has vowed to retaliate to the $34 billion in tariffs imposed by the US on Chinese imports, deepening investor concern about the potential for further trade action
  • European sovereign bonds are largely higher today, and the EUR€ shows signs of strength
  • European stocks are broadly lower today, with the Euro Stoxx 600 -0.18%, the FTSE 100 -0.42%, the DAX -0.09%, and the CAC 40 -0.11%.
  • Energy (-1.35%), financials (-0.47%), materials stocks (-0.24%) were the worst performers in the Euro Stoxx 600

  • Swiss treasuries are higher as the yield on Switzerland’s 10-year is 1.9 basis points lower to -0.177%
  • Yield on the German Bund is down 0.5 basis points to 0.290%
  • Spanish 10-year bonds are up, with the yield on Spain’s 10-year sliding 1.9 basis points to 1.303%
