How Did European Stocks Close?

European stocks closed broadly higher with the Euro Stoxx 600 +0.58%, the CAC 40 +0.42%, the DAX +0.38%, and the FTSE 100 +0.92%. Peripheral markets were higher as well, with Spain’s IBEX +0.22%, Italy’s FTSE MIB +0.49%, Portugal’s PSI 20 +0.77%, and Athens ASE +0.36%. Energy (+1.28%), information technology (+1.16%), and materials stocks (+1.05%) were the biggest outperformers in the Euro Stoxx 600, while utilities (-0.97%), and real estate stocks (-0.19%) finished in the red. The VSTOXX finished down 67 basis points, or 4.56%, to 14.07. Italian treasuries moved higher today, with the yield on Italy’s 10-year down 4.9 basis points to 2.657%, while the yield on the German Bund rose 0.9 basis points to 0.297%. European currencies are mixed against the UUSD$, with the EUR€ +0.02%, the GBP£ -0.44%, the SEK -0.01%, and the CHF -0.25%.
