European Stocks Trading Higher on Positive US-EU Trade Summit Outcome

  • Sentiment across European equity markets has turned higher, reversing from yesterday’s negative outlook. A positive outcome from the trade summit between President Trump and EU Chief Jean-Claude Juncker, after which both parties agreed to suspend the imposition of new tariffs, has driven today’s higher trading. The ECB has maintained its guidance and left its policy rates unchanged. Monthly QE of €30 billion will continue until September 2018, before declining to €15 billion from October to December
  • European stocks are mostly higher today, with the Euro Stoxx 600 + 0.46%, the CAC 40 +0.27%, the DAX +1.08%, while the FTSE 100 has edged 0.02% lower
  • Automobiles & Parts(+2.10%), Telecommunications(+1.60%), Banks(+0.77%) stocks are the top performers in the Euro Stoxx 600 today
  • Retail(-0.82%), Travel & Leisure(-0.53%), Food & Beverage(-0.41%) stocks are the worst performers in the Euro Stoxx 600 today
  • Market breadth for the Euro Stoxx 600 is notably positive with 375 stocks advancing compared to 208 declines

  • Italian sovereign treasuries are selling-off, with the yield on Italy’s 10-year up 2.1 basis points to 2.691%
  • The German Bund is lower today, as yield on the German 10-year has risen 2.0 basis points to 0.412%
  • Yield on the French 10-year is 1.8 basis points higher, to 0.707%
  • UK 10-year bonds are lower, with the yield on the UK 10-year up 1.5 basis points to 1.286%
